Get to Know Us


Heather Cymbaluk

Executive Director

Heather has been the Executive Director with Companions for Children since July, 2013. She was born and raised in Minot, ND. She attended Minot State University, graduating in 2011 with a Bachelors of Science in Marketing and Management Information Systems. She then attended University of Mary, receiving her MBA with an Executive and Healthcare focus. Heather has chose to work with Companions for Children because she has a passion for giving back to her community. She loves seeing how children in the program are becoming more confident and growing into young adults with the help of their mentors. Heather enjoys spending time with her husband Tyler and kitty Dexter, in addition to camping, fishing, exercise classes and reading!

Jalisa Tinnes

Assistant Director

Jalisa moved to Minot from Custer, WA in 2013 to attend Minot State University. She graduated with her Bachelor’s in Finance followed by her Master’s in Science and Management in 2018. Jalisa is expecting her first child in August and is enthusiastic about the success and well being of all children in our community. Jalisa comes from a background in the nonprofit sector and is excited to continue her work making a difference directly in kids’ lives serving the Companions for Children mission. Jalisa enjoys spending her time with her husband Brett and two dogs Piper and Ted. She enjoys spending her free time doing crafts, home improvement projects, cooking and most recently preparing for a new baby!


Nya Harris

Enrollment Coordinator

Nya has lived in Minot all her life. She will graduate from Minot State University with her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work in May 2021. While completing her BSW, Nya worked at Companions for Children as an intern. Nya is very excited about the opportunity to stay on at Companions for Children to work through the enrollment process with mentors and mentees. Nya has enjoyed being able to see the enrollment process through from start to match. She looks forward to being able to help future mentors and mentees and to find them the best match possible. Nya enjoys spending time with her boyfriend Gannon, two dogs, Stryker and Sova, and cat, Stu. In her free time she enjoys hanging out with her family, teaching exercise classes, watching Netflix, and spending time outside.
