What
Mentors and mentees are paired one-on-one and grow their relationship through simple, meaningful experiences. Whether it's cooking dinner, catching a local ball game, or volunteering together, the focus is always on connection. Activities are free or low-cost—because it’s about quality time, not money spent.
When
Matches meet twice per month after school, in the evenings, or on weekends.
Why
Mentors provide a child with someone they can talk to, confide in, and share their thoughts with. At its core, mentoring ensures that young people know someone cares about them, that they’re not alone in facing life’s day-to-day challenges, and—most importantly—that they matter.

Who
Mentees - Local children ages 6–18 who have been identified by a caring adult as someone who could benefit from having an additional positive role model in their life. Each child has learned what it means to have a Mentor—and has personally decided they want one.
Mentors - Local adult volunteers (age 20+) who have completed Companions for Children’s screening process and are committed to building a consistent, supportive relationship with a child for at least 18 months.

MATCH ACTIVITY SPONSORS
Mentoring gives kids something truly invaluable—someone who cares, someone who listens, and someone who reminds them they matter. One of the best ways to strengthen that bond is through shared experiences. Matches spend time exploring new interests and simply having fun together. These outings are always free for families, which means the cost often falls on the volunteer Mentor. That’s where our community steps in. Each month, Companions for Children partners with a local business to sponsor a Match Activity—giving Mentors and Mentees the chance to try something new together, often for the very first time, at no cost to them. It’s a simple way to make a big impact.
